I saw JessietheReader make this video and I fell in love with the idea, so instead of doing a video, I decided to do a blog post! I hope all of you like it. I am displaying the top 6 and explaining why I liked it and why people didn't like it.
1. Me Being Me is Exactly the Same as You Being You
Now, this book is an entire book made from lists. Most of the story are lists. As someone who loves organization and making lists, I found this book perfect for me. I would say its a dumbed down love story and not many exciting things happen, but it is nice for reading something with a different writing style. A lot of people on Goodreads seem to have DNF this book because apparently there were too many lists. As someone who loves lists, I wasn't too bothered by it. Another complaint that people had is that the characters were flat. I can agree on that where there wasn't too much character development.
My Rating: 4/5
Goodreads Rating: 3/5
2. Suicide Notes from Beautiful Girls
Honestly, this book was weird. It went from a friend who was trying to interpret her best friend's suicide note and then went to a weird crime scene situation. It was all really weird and it was an interesting concept that didn't feel too fast for me. A lot of people are saying that the writing was good, but the story was confusing. I can see where they are coming from, and I can't disagree with them, but I was able to finish this book and it seemed to wrap up nicely.
My Rating: 4/5
Goodreads Rating: 3.46/5
3. We All Looked Up
I originally did not like this book. In my eyes, the whole world went to shit once people found out they were dying. I find that ridiculous, but I think you have to be optimistic to read this kind of book. A lot of people seem to say that the concept was good, but the execution was poor. If you do like books like this one, I heard "Life as we knew it" is good and haven't gotten the chance to read it.
My Rating: 4.5/5
Goodreads Rating: 3.59/5
4. Every Exquisite Thing
Dang, I can't believe this wasn't rated higher on Goodreads! I loved this story so much and I can't even express the roller coaster of emotion it put me through. It was so inspiring to see this person be in contact with their favorite author that is normally forgotten about and have this bond with more people who like the same author! There aren't many too bad comments because a lot of people liked the writing, I guess it was just the tone that the book was giving off.
My Rating: 5/5
Goodreads Rating: 3.65/5
5. Be More Chill
I am biased about this one because I love the musical. The story is full on ridiculous and there are no character arcs or development, but the story is just fun to read when you are in a slump and its pretty fun to connect the songs to where it is supposed to be in the book. Some people were saying that the book was too cliche and that there was no character development. Not all good books need character development, it's just a norm placed there because it is what made the book interesting when nothing else could happen. The author of this book was able to put this concept into play with everything else going on, it is simply hilarious and beautiful and I can't fathom what this book did for me.
My Rating: 5/5
Goodreads Rating: 3.68/5
6. Something in Between
I am honestly biased about this one too. I'm Filipino and this story just hit so close to home. I related to every second of it and I just want more books with this kind of diversity!!! Okay, not that many people really gave bad reviews on this book, I saw one that thought the book was kind of stereotypical, but from being a Filipino, what the person thought was a stereotype was actual reality. They thought it was bad to make it look like these people immigrate here just to become a janitor or janitress. However, most places in the U.S. don't actually take the degrees from other countries, making people who used to be doctors/surgeons/nurses to become something less than. (Fun Fact of the Day here)
My Rating: 5/5
Goodreads Rating: 3.75/5
Well, I hope you enjoyed. Please tell me some of your favorite low rated books!
